Infosecurity Europe, the premier information security event, will take place from 4-6 June 2024 at ExCeL in London.
The event unveiled further insights from the 2024 Cybersecurity Trends, Obstacles and Opportunities report, highlighting growing concerns among cybersecurity leaders about ransomware and AI-generated attacks.
Nearly 40% of respondents said these threats are leading them to increase investment in cyber defenses.
Rising threats drive increased cybersecurity investments
The latest survey findings underscore the urgency for organizations to stay ahead of evolving cyber threats.
As attacks become more frequent, sophisticated and damaging, companies are ramping up resources to shore up their defenses and become more resilient.
This increased investment highlights the critical role of cybersecurity in protecting sensitive data, maintaining customer trust, and ensuring business continuity.
Ransomware: A persistent threat
Ransomware remains a major concern and this year’s Infosecurity Europe event will be taking a deeper look at the issue.
Raising awareness of these risks is important, as malicious actors exploit vulnerabilities in software, hardware, and human behavior.
The event will cover a range of topics, from ransomware attacks targeting critical infrastructure to sophisticated phishing attacks aimed at stealing sensitive data.
Ransomware Keynote
One of the key sessions, “Ransomware – Decision Time – To Pay or Not to Pay?”, will take place on Thursday, June 6th from 10:55 AM to 11:25 AM. The panel will cover:
- John Davis, senior director of cyber defense at News Corp.
- Paul Peters, Detective Superintendent/Managing Director, Welsh Cyber Resilience Centre
- Gareth Bateman, UK Cyber Growth Leader at Marsh
Moderated by James Coker, Associate Editor at Infosecurity Magazine, the discussion will address the ongoing debate around paying for ransomware.
Highlighting the importance of the session, John Davis said: “Ransomware attacks are becoming increasingly prevalent and continue to pose a major threat to organisations.
“As cybercriminals continue to evolve their tactics, it is critical that organizations are prepared and equipped with effective response and recovery strategies.
“We will share real-world experiences and advice on how to respond to a ransomware attack, while examining the potential risks and consequences associated with paying the ransom.”
“The goal of this session is to provide participants with the knowledge and reference materials they need to make informed decisions and mitigate the impact of a ransomware incident.”
Cybersecurity Crisis Management
Jennifer McGee, CISO at Element Materials Technology, will deliver a keynote address on crisis management titled “Crisis Management – Responding to the Unthinkable” on Thursday, June 6th from 14:05 to 14:45.
Moderated by Paul Watts, distinguished analyst/vCISO at Information Security Forum, the panel will feature:
- Paul McKee, CISO, Fern Trading
- Stuart Seymour, Group CISO and CSO, Virgin Media O2
- Tomás Roy, Director General of the Catalan Cybersecurity Agency
Jennifer McGee emphasised the importance of crisis management, saying: “Cybersecurity incidents can have far-reaching implications, affecting not only an organisation’s operations but also its reputation and customer trust.
“Companies need to have robust incident response plans, detection, containment and recovery in place.
“This needs to be coupled with clear communication, cooperation and coordination between stakeholders during a crisis.
“Alongside other cybersecurity experts, I will leverage my expertise in crisis management to provide practical guidance on how to strengthen your overall cybersecurity posture and ensure resilience in responding to attacks.”
Comprehensive coverage of ransomware and AI threats
Infosecurity Europe 2024 will feature several other sessions exploring ransomware and AI-enabled attacks, providing attendees with valuable insights and up-to-date information.
These sessions will bring together industry experts, thought leaders and cybersecurity professionals to discuss the latest trends, strategies and best practices to combat ransomware attacks.
Participants will leave with critical knowledge for decision-making in the ransomware landscape and the critical latest information needed to stay ahead of evolving threats.
